With E3 less than a week away, Square Enix has decided to rev up the Final Fantasy XIII-2 hype machine a little early. On display are two new screenshots and more details on what the game's story will actually be about. Set a few years after FFXIII, Lightning is missing and it's up to her sister Serah to find her. Players will take control of Serah along with Noel, a mysterious stranger who saves the young lady from monsters, as the pair set out to locate the girl's taciturn older sister.
Director Motomu Toriyama and producer Yoshinori Kitasi have said in earlier interviews that the plot will be darker and more mysterious than the previous game, in contrast to the bubbly pop diva route taken by FFX-2. According to Siliconera, players will seek out an invisible world called Bunibelle in FFXIII-2. The goddess Etro is also expected to play a pivotal role in the story. Take that as you will, but it looks like the sequel will explore the Fabula Nova Crystallis mythology in greater detail. Also, pictures! Get used to seeing Serah and Noel, at least in the early going. [SOURCE]
