New ‘Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII’ QTE, XP and stagger details posted

Several new details have been revealed on Friday in regards to the upcoming multiplatform title, “Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII.” The latest information, which comes from a Famitsu interview with Square Enix, talks a little bit about the changes made to the stagger mechanic and experience system. The possible return of quick time events was also discussed. You can check out the article and the details from Famitsu.com (via the NeoGAF forum for the translation) below:

Unlike FFXIII and FFXIII-2 where to stagger an enemy all you had to do was fill up an enemy's chain gauge, this time you have to fulfill a bunch of other conditions besides that.
  • This time there are no QTEs.
  • Lightning's growth is tied to completing the quests you get from people in-game. From battles you get components to make new equipment and points to alter the amount of available time before the end.

Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII Screenshots Race Against The Clock

Final Fantasy fans are getting downright spoiled this week. Days after releasing the first trailer for Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII, Square Enix has sent out a flood of fresh screenshots. The city in the screenshots is called Luxerion. The city is deeply religious and doesn't take kindly to strangers who don't share their beliefs. That certainly includes Lightning, who's been sleeping for a few hundred years.

Nonetheless, the inhabitants of Luxerion need Lightning's help. The world will end in thirteen days and only she can prevent that from happening. She'll spend those few days dashing around Luxerion - and the rest of the Novus Partus islands - in a desperate attempt to stop the apocalypse. You might notice a few clocks in the screenshots; the game world is lousy with them, in order to keep the player informed of the passage of time. [SOURCE]

Square Enix Reveals First Trailer for Lighting Returns: Final Fantasy XIII

Square Enix has unveiled the very first trailer (thanks GameTrailers) for yet another title in the Final Fantasy XIII spin-off series, this time titled Lighting Returns. While details are still slim on what exactly we can expect from the third title in the Final Fantasy XIII, players can expect to take control of returning character Lightning in what seems to be the ending of his chapter.

Lightning will be the playable character - with a highly evolved range of techniques for battles and exploring the environment. Customise Lightning with a large range of different outfits and weapons; that affect not only the way she looks, but also her actions and abilities.

A new battle system gives a level of direct control over the action unlike any FINAL FANTASY game, while having iconic elements that are known and loved throughout the series too. You can check out the trailer to get a glimpse at what you can expect from the long-running series, including overview of the new action battle system.

Square Enix On Bringing Lightning Returns To Life

Lightning returns. The Final Fantasy XIII heroine wraps up her saga with Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII. And it looks to be not only a very different Final Fantasy, but also to be one of the most interesting FF titles in recent memory.

Prior to the game's official unveiling, there were huge hints that Square Enix was returning to FFXIII. Many gamers, myself included, weren't exactly thrilled by the notion. Then something happened: Square Enix showed the game's concept, and it looked (and sounded) great. Lightning wasn't striking twice, but thrice. But there's more than that, Square Enix tells Kotaku.

Final Fantasy 13-2 Releases Final Batch Of DLC

Will feature Lightning and Snow

The final batch of DLC has finally been released by Square Enix for their fairly successful follow up to Final Fantasy 13, Final Fantasy 13-2. The DLC is all about our favorite heroine Lightning, and her battle with Caius the immortal guardian of the timeline. The DLC is not just an arena battle like the last DLC featuring Lightning was, but has missions to do. Also released is a Snow based mission pack.

The big news here isn’t really that there is DLC, it is what is in the trailer for the DLC. According to the-magicbox.com, the trailer says “Next Prologue – Lightning Chapter: Requiem of the Goddess”, which seems to hint that this DLC is the prologue of the next game Final Fantasy XIII-3. If this turns out to be true, we could be seeing the new direction that Square Enix is heading in with it’s Final Fantasy series. They might be able to combat the extreme length of time between Final Fantasy games with chaptered sequels built with the same engine. [SOURCE]

Final Fantasy XIII-2 will see Lightning DLC

News out of Japan confirms the character as DLC.

Apparently Square Enix has DLC plans for Final Fantasy XIII-2. A rumor out of Famitsu Magazine in Japan claims that Lightning will return and become a playable party member in the update. This isn't the first Square Enix has said about the inclusion of the character, as earlier reported, she'll turn up in "Coliseum Battles". Defeating her in one of the said battles will grant the abilty to use the character in your party.

Andria Sang confirms that there will also be "Secret Story Episodes" surrounding the character in the downloadable content. Other details coming out of the interview include other types of downloadable content that Square Enix will explore with the upcoming release. Classic Final Fantasy bosses are a possibility for Coliseum Battles as well.

While already released in Japan, Final Fantasy XIII-2 is getting ready to release in North America later this month. [SOURCE]

Players Can Adjust Final Fantasy XIII-2′s Difficulty Anytime

Producer of Final Fantasy XIII-2 Yoshinori Kitase has revealed that some gamers found the bosses in Final Fantasy XIII too hard so that’s why there’s an easy mode in Final Fantasy XIII-2. He not only mentioned this, but to avoid these gamers getting frustrated, he also said that it is “possible to switch to “easy” at any time of the adventure.” Square Enix included this to attract new players to the Final Fantasy franchise. This is a pretty neat feature. If you don’t feel like playing the game on “easy” or “normal” you can always switch to “hard” mode or vice versa whenever you please. Final Fantasy XIII-2 is scheduled for release January 31st in North America and February 3rd in Europe for the PS3 and Xbox 360. [SOURCE]

Square Enix Plans Final Fantasy XIII-2 Demo Release Next Week

According to this week’s PlayStation Blog’s Blogcast, a Final Fantasy XIII-2 demo will be released during next week’s PlayStation Store update on January 10th. That’s three weeks before its official release, giving you ample time to try out the new mechanics and see if 2012 will start out with a JRPG bang. The only bad thing is that if you do end up enjoying it, you’ll have to wait anxiously until January 31st in North America and February 3rd in Europe to finally get your hands on this year’s Final Fantasy.

Based on past playable demos released from the Final Fantasy series, the gameplay piece will likely be what was seen on convention floors during 2011. If that’s the case, the demo will feature Serah and Noel as they seek to find Lightning who has disappeared after the events of Final Fantasy XIII. There will be plenty of gameplay as well as a mini-boss in addition to the gorgeous visuals that Square Enix is known for. Be sure to try it out, and share your experiences with us! [SOURCE]
